A new album by Maria Roveran, with concept music by Joe Schievano, is about to be released. The title will be ‘As in a film’ (Squilibri editore). Known for her skills as an actress and performer, Maria also brings to this project all her artistic sensitivity as a singer and songwriter, creating songs that touch very deep chords with their words, in a way that goes straight to the heart.
A Sound Journey through Emotions
The album is characterised by its sonic depth and originality, while maintaining a minimal structure. The songs are rich in references not so much to cinema as story, but in the creative approach of composing music for images, exploring how music itself can bring out and bring to light the underlying emotions and narrative, in this case in song form. This project is mainly based on the collaboration between two artists who use their usual languages, those of their daily work, writing, acting performance, soundtrack creation and sound art.
Among the artistic collaborations
A highlight is the collaboration with the talented singer Erica Boschiero, who further enriches the album with her presence in one of the tracks. Her voice and interpretation add a special dimension to the composition, which alternately duets with Maria’s voice and then joins in the chorus.
The music on this album travels within the boundaries of the mainstream, without slipping into the realm of experimentation. Electronics play a key role, but blend harmoniously with classical instruments such as the cello and viola, played by very talented musicians.
Maria Roveran’s album represents a complete artistic work, capable of involving the listener in a profound emotional journey. Ten songs created as if they were the motifs of ten soundtracks, with a use of the voice that seems to stratify between different sonorities, echoes, archetypal sound fragments and sound design elements created to invite the listener to imagination. Almost as if the meaning of the word could be projected onto a screen, in front of our eyes or within us and, in that image evoked by the music, finally find the fullness of its meaning.
